The Toyota Land Cruiser 78 Series is the definitive vehicle for the Northern Circuit. High ground clearance, a proven 4.2-litre diesel engine, and near-indestructible reliability in extreme conditions.

GAPI's Land Cruisers are fitted with custom pop-up roofs running the full width and length of the passenger compartment — 360-degree elevated viewing with no pillars or obstructions. All six vehicles are serviced every 5,000 kilometres with full engine rebuilds at 80,000.

Photography infrastructure includes 12V and 220V power outlets at every seat, dedicated camera bag storage, bean bag rests at all roof positions, and a charging rail for telephoto lens stabilisation.

The 70 Series is GAPI's vehicle for rougher access routes to Maasai cultural encounters, Hadzabe communities at Lake Eyasi, and Kilimanjaro trailheads. Where the 78 Series provides optimal game viewing, the 70 Series provides optimal access to remote terrain.

Fitted with a complete recovery kit — high-lift jack, traction boards, kinetic recovery rope, and a 9,000-pound electric winch — enabling self-recovery from any situation. In eleven years, we have required external recovery once.

Night drives operate under separate TANAPA permits arranged by GAPI. The night configuration includes a red-light interior system preserving night vision, a roof-mounted 100,000-lumen spotlight, and a modified exhaust for reduced engine noise on approach.

Night drives produce categorically different encounters. Lions on active hunt. Leopards between territories. Aardvarks, civets, genets, and the honey badger — one of the most requested sightings — almost exclusively a night drive encounter.
